Accessibility

How this website is built to be usable with a screen reader, a keyboard or at a larger text size, what the property itself offers, and how to tell us when something is not working.

This page describes the rebuilt site. The previous version of this page — titled “Accessibiity Policy,” misspelt — committed to WCAG 2.0 level AA while the site it described had 22 of 70 images with no alt text (one page alone had 25 unlabelled images), 12 colour-contrast failures, and text smaller than 12 pixels. This page states what is actually true of the site you are reading now.

What we build to

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. Every page is tested automatically against that standard at three screen widths — 320, 390 and 1440 pixels — and the build is not released with a known violation outstanding.

That testing covers:

  • Text contrast against its background, at AA ratios.
  • Alternative text on every image. This is enforced when the site is built: a photograph added without a description fails the build rather than reaching you.
  • Keyboard navigation. Every control can be reached and operated without a mouse, and the focused element is always visible.
  • Tap targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels for standalone controls.
  • Text that scales. Nothing here disables pinch-zoom, and the layout holds when text is enlarged.
  • Headings and landmarks in a real order, so a screen reader can navigate the page by structure.

What is not done yet

Automated testing catches a great deal, but not everything. We have not yet completed a manual review with a screen reader.

Getting around the property

The hotel’s own accessibility page lists:

  • Accessible rooms
  • An accessible public entrance
  • An accessible route to the reservation front desk
  • Accessible parking

The property’s own room map names the accessible rooms as 103, 105 and 128.

Service animals

Service animals as defined by the ADA are welcome in any available room. They are not pets, and no pet fee, pet deposit or routine cleaning fee applies. See the hotel policy for handler-control and damage terms.
